... And the Soul Felt Its Worth

My favorite Christmas carol of all time is "O, Holy Night"... specifically when sung by Josh Groban. There's something about the melody that I find incredibly beautiful; and over the last few years, I have become more captivated by the lyrics.

Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

When was the last time your soul felt its worth? It's true worth?

This Christmas season, if there is one thing I would want you to know it is this: your soul is of great value and immeasurable worth.

So much so, that over 2000 years ago, God began his redemptive plan for humanity... for your soul and for mine. On this night, Love came down... leaving His heavenly throne, and made his way humbly into our world as tiny baby in a manger whose name is Jesus...to walk among us sharing a story of hope and redemption, and to ultimately give up his own life for the sake of ours.

For the souls of those who feel insignificant... Love came down.

For the souls of those who feel too broken to be fixed... Love came down.

For the souls of those bound by addiction... Love came down.

For the souls of those who feel burdened by shame... Love came down.

For the souls of those whose lives feel shattered by heartache and pain... Love came down.

For the souls of those whose life outside the womb was far too short... Love came down.

For the souls of those who have been conceived, but have not yet been born... Love came down.

Because of the person of Jesus Christ, your soul is of immeasurable worth. It is the presence of Jesus that illuminates our soul's true value.

If you want to know what your soul is truly worth, cast your gaze upon Him... know Him... and allow Him to bring His heavenly peace.

There is no soul that is insignificant... and that includes the souls of little children who have yet to be born. A person's soul doesn't just gain significance once they are born; a person's soul has eternal significance and worth from the moment of conception as he or she is being uniquely created in the womb in the very image of God.

It is my sincere hope and prayer this Christmas season that you would know your soul's true worth. That you would know that your soul is of immeasurable value to God... so much so that it was purchased at a great cost. And I pray that this year, the good news of Christmas would bring you hope.

A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees!
Oh hear the angel voices!
Oh night divine!
Oh night when Christ was born!
Oh night divine!
Oh night, oh night divine!

Not to start an ugly fight, just curious. Why is it not okay to kill a "soul" before it's capable of life, but the presidents YOU vote for are allowed to take a man's "soul" through capital punishment?

I am a long time lurker, not usually one to comment, but I want to say that Emily's comment is completely inappropriate for this post.

That aside, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and thank you for reminding me that my soul is of worth even when it doesn't feel like it. :)

I have been following your blog for awhile and your insights regarding life, both in the womb and born...are things I cherish as I tell others about you and Issac. Thank you for this post today about our Lord...I had Christmas hymns playing in the background and with your words of comfort, the words reminding me of the great love Christ has for all of us, was a great way to begin this Christmas Eve. God be with you!

"O Holy Night" is also my most favorite carol. However, I will listen to it differently after reading this post. WOW! Your writing is beautiful, Stacy. Thank you for causing me to re-think this song. Of course I knew it was about Christs birth, but I see it's about so much more.

Merry Christmas Stacy!

Christmas is such an amazing time to humble ourselves and realize the depth of the gift Jesus is to the world.
Emily, a baby is alive in the womb; that has never been a debatable point. However, if you are saying a baby is incapable of sustaining life without the nourishment and care of the mother while in utereo I would have to urge you to think about how a baby receives nourishment and basic life need fulfillment once delivered. I now have 2 children and am expecting a third. I know that they are all fully dependent on me to live. It's not looking like that will end anytime soon.
Thanks for the post Stacy. Wonderfully said!

Oh, the beauty of our souls is that they cannot be killed my man. They were created to worship God, both in our fleshly bodies and forever, and that is something so incredible it's hard to imagine. I think this carol might be touching on that. That we would know the value and significance of what our souls were created to be. That we would know what our souls are worth.

This is so much bigger than politics. Besides God isn't a republican or a democrat. :)

I'm not usually one that posts comments, but I just have to comment on this. You have touched me with your words in a way that my heart has needed to hear for some time now. I haven't lost a child & will never know the impact of that and the incredible heartache. But the words "insignificant, shame & broken" are way too familiar to me and the comfort of hearing from someone that truly knows hurt, that I am still so valued by Him that sent Love to me through His son, is immeasurable. Thank you so much for reminding me of that. And I hope you know that you are wise and comforting in ways that you might never realize, even to those of us that are in different circumstances. God bless you for being His witness! I believe God uses pain in significant ways to help others....you are proof of that!
